In business, being or having the next big thing can be the difference in making it and scraping by. Staying on top of trends is important, but you also have to see what is working and what is not.

Customers are as busy as ever. Whether they are actually busy with work and life as they’ll have you believe, or they are just addicted to staring down their smartphone until it gives them the information they desire, our lives are nothing but a bustling bit of chaos.

If you don’t have a rewards program, it’s a great idea, but don’t just get a punch card. Companies that are making rewards work today have a hassle free system. It is something that is either tracked by a smartphone app, or if you don’t have the IT team for that, a visitor tracking system. Either the “100th shopper” like we saw in the 1980s, or the 10th visit, which puts a lot on your team.

If you can find a way to manage that, it could benefit you in the long run. Customers want something for nothing, and that’s what a good rewards program gives.

Apps That Do

If you haven’t already developed an app, it’s time to start looking at one. If you have a good management system in place, developing an app is something that you could hire a specialist to do for a reasonable sum. If you need a whole new system, that’s something you should look at as well.

There are apps out there that don’t do much, and their downloads and usage stats are crashing today. People want an app that is useful. If you can find an app that gives customers something they can use, then you’ll be on their mind more often because you’ll be on that tiny screen they stare at all day.

No one wants to hear that it’s time to evolve and embrace the tech push.

Unfortunately, 2018 looks like the year that is making it a necessity and less of a suggestion.
